VapourHost

Common sense dictates that one should stay away from lifetime hosting offers.

But if you don’t mind taking a risk and are looking for online hosting for which you only pay once and use forever (lifetime of user/hosting service?), especially for dev/demo sites, you may want to consider VapourHost.

They are selling LTDs at the moment here.

Plan specs

I bought the Power Plan 3 on 24th March.

Apparently they are selling a limited number of these LTD plans per this Facebook post.

Customer support is responsive and the hosting is fast.

Yes, the name is ridiculous but the founder wrote something along the lines that when he started the company he was taking Chemistry classes and vapour/entropy/active energy struck with him and that’s why it’s named that.

  • Server technology: SSD storage, CloudLinux OS and Litespeed.
  • Operating for 6 years.
  • Server location can be selected from USA, Germany and India. I chose USA.
  • upload_max_filesize is set to a meager 2MB out of the box which won’t be sufficient when uploading common WordPress plugins and themes. While this can be manually changed via the “MultiPHP INI Editor” section in cPanel for individual sites you may want to send them a support ticket to have the limit increased to 128MB.

I use Cloudflare for domain registration and management.

The recommended setup for Cloudflare is an A record for root domain and a CNAME for www pointing to the root domain.

It is not possible to automatically have an A record created in Cloudflare when a subdomain is created in the cPanel. So for subdomains, we first create them in the cPanel and then add the corresponding A record in Cloudflare.

SSLs will automatically be generated as long as the subdomain resolves.

I did some research and they seem genuine.

LTD or not, remember to set up automatic backups of all your sites both on-site and off-site.
